Zoom Video Communications has named Russell Dicker as its Chief Product Officer, signaling a shift from a communication tool to an AI-driven “system of action.” Dicker, who previously served as corporate vice president of product for Microsoft Teams, is tasked with overseeing the integration of machine learning and automation across Zoom’s entire portfolio.
His mandate centers on utilizing the Zoom AI Companion to bridge the gap between live conversations and completed workflows—automating follow-through tasks and context-gathering that currently require manual intervention. With over 25 years of experience across Microsoft, Google, and Amazon, Dicker’s appointment reflects Zoom’s intent to compete more aggressively in the enterprise productivity space by focusing on outcome-driven user experiences.
The hire comes as Zoom seeks to solidify its position in a fragmented market where businesses are increasingly prioritizing tools that offer native automation over standalone video conferencing. Under Dicker’s leadership, the product organization will focus on a roadmap that turns meetings, phone calls, and contact center interactions into structured, actionable data. By embedding AI into the core platform, Zoom aims to reduce “work about work,” allowing its global user base to automate repetitive administrative tasks while maintaining the platform’s hallmark simplicity. Dicker, a named inventor on 27 patents, will report directly to Velchamy Sankarlingam, Zoom’s President of Product and Engineering, as the company transitions into its next phase of AI-first growth.
