Corporate Responsibility

The company’s sustainability governance structure is led by a quarterly ESG Steering Committee (SteerCo), chaired by the Chief Sustainability Officer, and is responsible for shaping and overseeing the execution of the sustainability strategy. The governance framework includes annual updates to the Board/board-level committee, which approves the direction of sustainability, balances stakeholder interests, and upskills the Board on sustainability. SteerCo provides executive and senior leadership oversight and direction, ensuring alignment with business strategy and resourcing.

Monthly governance activities involve Sustainability Business Partners, who activate the sustainability strategy within the business, receive training, and drive objectives forward, alongside the Sustainability team, which acts as the center of expertise coordinating strategy, risk management, communication, and disclosures. Working groups progress specific projects aligned to strategy, such as ESG, carbon footprint, annual reporting, and marketing, while partners/third parties provide specialist expertise, support execution of specific projects, and offer independent viewpoint and assurance on a biweekly or as-needed basis.

IFS is aligning with the EU CSRD and Taxonomy by strengthening governance and reporting processes. In 2024, the company implemented a robust double materiality assessment, worked on EU Taxonomy, and completed gap analysis and action planning—closing over 70% of CSRD gaps by year-end. Partnering with Datamaran, IFS used AI-driven, data-based analysis to evaluate sustainability issues across its operations and value chain, identifying 11 material topics for impacts, risks, and opportunities. Although progress is strong, IFS continues working to achieve full CSRD compliance.

In July 2023, the ISSB issued its first IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards—IFRS S1 and IFRS S2—building on the TCFD framework and expanding sustainability reporting beyond climate. These standards aim to raise sustainability disclosures to the level of financial reporting, helping businesses and investors assess risks, opportunities, and performance more comprehensively. By September 2024, 30 jurisdictions representing significant global GDP, market value, and emissions were moving toward ISSB adoption. IFS transitioned from TCFD to ISSB-aligned reporting in 2024, focusing on climate disclosures under transition relief, and plans to broaden sustainability reporting in 2025 while aligning with CSRD. The company has strengthened governance, integrated climate risks into enterprise risk management, improved emissions data accuracy, and set climate-related goals as part of its ISSB roadmap.

IFS’s ISSB-aligned risk management uses a structured Enterprise Risk Management Framework, where local teams identify and assess risks, assign owners, and track mitigation actions. These are consolidated into a central enterprise risk register and reviewed annually, with material risks escalated to executive leadership and the Board. The Global Risk Management Function oversees assessments, and the CFO evaluates mitigation effectiveness before reporting to the CEO and Audit Committee. IFS has set science-based targets to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% and key Scope 3 emissions by 25% by 2030 (from a 2022 baseline), tracking progress using Scope 1–3 emissions and energy consumption via its IFS Cloud Emissions Management platform.

IFS is committed to reducing its environmental impact while maintaining strong business performance, focusing on both its operations and wider value chain. In 2024, the company procured 100% renewable electricity for all global offices, moved three offices to sustainable certified premises, and purchased sustainable aviation fuel, reducing travel emissions by 145 tCO₂e. IFS also improved emissions data accuracy by migrating to its IFS Cloud Emissions Management platform and investing in high-quality carbon credits through a multi-year agreement with Patch. With science-based targets aligned to the Paris Agreement, IFS aims to cut Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% and key Scope 3 emissions by 25% by 2030, supported by a decarbonization strategy that reduces, replaces, and engages across the value chain while reporting annually under GHG Protocol standards.

IFS is committed to upholding human rights and ethical conduct across its operations and value chain, aligning with international standards such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, UN Guiding Principles, and ILO Core Conventions. In 2024, IFS introduced a global Anti-Bullying, Harassment, and Sexual Harassment Policy to strengthen workplace protections. The company also maintains a zero-tolerance stance on corruption, guided by OECD Anti-Bribery standards, with mandatory anti-bribery and compliance training for all employees and additional training for higher-risk roles.

IFS reinforces ethical behavior through a secure whistleblowing platform that allows anonymous reporting of serious misconduct, with anti-retaliation safeguards and oversight by a senior cross-functional team. In sustainable procurement, IFS embeds ESG principles into supplier due diligence and contracts, reinforcing the Supplier Code of Conduct. In 2024, the company continued to enhance supply chain resilience by rolling out its Global Procurement Policy, offering supplier training, and ensuring 100% of the procurement team completed sustainability training, with further supplier assurance efforts planned for 2025.

IFS leverages its global fundraising capability to support the IFS Foundation, which helps children in underserved Sri Lankan communities access education and essential services such as clean water, sanitation, healthcare, school infrastructure, and employment opportunities. In 2024, IFS ran multiple fundraising initiatives—such as a special photo album book project—raising over $300,000 through contributions from employees, partners, and shareholders. The Foundation also partnered with the Hg Foundation, securing a £64,000 grant to build a computer lab and provide STEM training in Weralugahamula, while making progress across three villages by building classrooms, toilets, water treatment plants, and healthcare facilities including a neonatal care unit and vaccination center.

IFS also actively encourages employee volunteering through CSR Volunteer Days, with 25% of employees participating in 2024—surpassing the 20% target and representing a fivefold increase since 2021. Volunteers supported projects globally, such as painting new medical facilities in Sri Lanka and assisting local community events in Germany and Denmark. The IFS Education Program further extends the impact by supporting STEM education in 156 institutions worldwide through scholarships, internships, software and hardware donations, mentoring, and STEM career fairs, helping young people explore technology careers and build future-ready skills.
