Meta has announced that it has appointed Curtis Joseph Mahoney as its new Chief Legal Officer, filling a role soon to be vacated by Jennifer Newstead. Newstead disclosed in December that she would leave Meta to assume the position of general counsel at Apple in March. Mahoney most recently served at Microsoft as corporate vice president and general counsel for product, services, and go-to-market legal. At Microsoft, Mahoney worked closely with Vice Chair Brad Smith and led legal teams supporting engineering, sales, and marketing.

His prior experience includes a term as Deputy U.S. Trade Representative during President Donald Trump’s first administration. Meta Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg said, “C.J. brings world-class legal expertise, passion for frontier technology, and deep insight into the global regulatory challenges facing our industry.” Mahoney stated, “I’m excited to join Meta as it leads the way in AI innovation and continues to connect people around the world.”
