IBM has partnered with Anthropic to integrate Anthropic’s Claude, a large language model (LLM), into IBM’s software portfolio. The collaboration aims to develop AI solutions for enterprise use emphasizing security, governance, and cost controls. Claude will initially be incorporated into IBM’s new AI-first integrated development environment (IDE), currently in private preview.

Early adopters report productivity gains averaging 45% while maintaining code quality and security standards. “This partnership enhances our software portfolio with advanced AI capabilities while maintaining the governance, security, and reliability that our clients have come to expect,” said Dinesh Nirmal, SVP, Software at IBM.

The IDE uses Claude to assist with application modernization, intelligent code generation, and end-to-end orchestration across the software development lifecycle while embedding security directly into workflows. Mike Krieger, Chief Product Officer at Anthropic, added, “Enterprises are looking for AI they can actually trust with their code, their data, and their day-to-day operations.” IBM and Anthropic also developed the Architecting Secure Enterprise AI Agents guide, providing a structured approach to the Agent Development Lifecycle, supporting structured and secure AI deployment for enterprise users.
