Google has announced an additional $9 billion investment in Virginia through 2026 to expand cloud and AI infrastructure. The initiative includes the construction of a new data center in Chesterfield County, which will join existing campuses in Loudoun and Prince William counties, further strengthening Virginia’s role as the world’s largest data center market. The company is also collaborating with local partners on energy efficiency solutions to meet rising demand.

Governor Glenn Youngkin welcomed the announcement, calling it “a powerful endorsement of our Commonwealth’s leadership in the AI economy,” emphasizing both infrastructure expansion and workforce development.

Beyond facilities, Google is providing Virginia residents with free access to AI skills and career programs as part of a broader $1 billion national commitment. All Virginia-based college students will receive a year of access to the Google AI Pro plan, while institutions such as the University of Virginia, Brightpoint Community College, and Northern Virginia Community College are included in the inaugural Google AI for Education Accelerator. 

“With today’s announcement, Google is deepening our roots in Virginia,” said Ruth Porat, Alphabet and Google President and Chief Investment Officer, noting the effort will “help position Virginia—and America—for the opportunities technology can deliver.”
