Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud have introduced a jointly engineered multicloud networking capability designed to simplify private connectivity between their platforms. The collaboration links AWS Interconnect – multicloud with Google Cloud’s Cross-Cloud Interconnect, allowing enterprises to provision high-bandwidth, private connections between the two clouds directly through native cloud consoles and APIs. The companies are also publishing a new open interoperability specification intended to reduce the operational complexity traditionally associated with multicloud networking, particularly for organizations running latency-sensitive or data-intensive workloads across environments.

The new approach shifts multicloud connectivity away from manually coordinated physical infrastructure toward a managed, cloud-native model that can be activated in minutes rather than weeks. Built with redundant routing, continuous monitoring, and encryption at the network edge, the solution targets large enterprises seeking more predictable performance and security across distributed cloud architectures. By opening the underlying specification to additional providers, AWS and Google Cloud are positioning the initiative as a step toward broader multicloud standardization, addressing a longstanding pain point for organizations that want flexibility without the overhead of custom network engineering.
