Anthropic has announced the appointment of Irina Ghose as Managing Director of India as the company prepares to open its first office in the country. Ghose brings more than 30 years of experience in building and scaling technology organizations. She most recently served as Managing Director of Microsoft India, where she led enterprise adoption of AI across sectors such as banking, financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, and government.
Commenting on the opportunity, Ghose said, “India has a real opportunity to shape how AI is built and deployed at scale. Indian organizations are moving beyond experimentation toward applied AI, where trust, safety, and long-term impact matter as much as innovation.” In her new role, Ghose will oversee Anthropic’s expansion across India, including engagement with policymakers, academic institutions, developers, and enterprise customers applying AI to local challenges.
Chris Ciauri, Managing Director of International at Anthropic, said, “Irina’s expertise in scaling technology businesses and driving enterprise transformation makes her the ideal leader as we expand.” He added, “Irina will ensure our approach is grounded in local insight and aligned with our mission.” India already represents Anthropic’s second-largest market for Claude.ai, highlighting its strategic importance. According to Anthropic’s fourth Economic Index, nearly half of usage by Indian users focuses on computer science and mathematical applications, reflecting strong demand for advanced technical capabilities as organizations move from experimentation toward applied AI at scale.
