Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has announced a leadership reorganization aimed at accelerating the development of advanced technologies that will shape the company’s future customer experiences. Jassy said Amazon has reached an inflection point with several emerging technologies, and has asked long-time executive Peter DeSantis to lead a new organization overseeing expansive AI models, custom silicon development, and quantum computing.

DeSantis, a 27-year Amazon veteran, has held senior roles across AWS infrastructure and utility computing and will now report directly to Jassy. “We wanted to free Peter up to focus his energy, invention cycles, and leadership on these new areas,” Jassy said.

As part of the changes, Pieter Abbeel will lead Amazon’s frontier model research team within its AGI organization, while continuing his work with robotics. Jassy also confirmed that AWS Utility Computing leaders will retain their roles, with further details to be shared separately. He acknowledged the departure of Rohit Prasad, who will leave Amazon at the end of the year after leading the development of Amazon Nova and the AGI organization. “Rohit helped Alexa grow from an ambitious idea into a service that now touches hundreds of millions of customers,” Jassy added.
