MongoDB has moved to a dual product leadership model, separating its core database portfolio from its AI and emerging product initiatives. Pablo Stern has joined the company as Chief Product Officer for AI and Emerging Products, while Ben Cefalo has been promoted to Chief Product Officer for Core Products. The structure gives MongoDB dedicated leadership for Atlas and Enterprise Advanced on one side, and Search, Vector Search, Voyage, and AI partnerships on the other.

Stern joins MongoDB from ServiceNow, where he served as EVP and GM of Technology Workflow Products. During his five-year tenure, he scaled the IT Operations Management business from $100 million to more than $1 billion in revenue. At MongoDB, he will lead AI-focused product areas and manage strategic partnerships with foundation model companies.

Cefalo, who joined MongoDB in 2017, will oversee the company’s core product portfolio, including Atlas and Enterprise Advanced. He previously served as SVP and Head of Core Products, contributing to the company’s growth to $2.46 billion in fiscal year 2026 revenue. Jim Scharf remains Chief Technology Officer.

The restructuring gives MongoDB separate product leaders for two major priorities: accelerating AI-related development while continuing to execute across its primary database offerings. CEO CJ Desai said the expanded leadership team is intended to position MongoDB as a generational data platform. Both Stern and Cefalo report directly to Desai, and the move follows recent appointments of a new Chief Revenue Officer and Chief Customer Officer.
