OpenText has finalized the transition of James McGourlay from his post as Interim CEO to the role of President and Chief Client Officer. A 30-year veteran of the Waterloo-based information management giant, McGourlay will now spearhead the company’s global client experience, professional services, and renewals divisions. Reporting to the newly appointed CEO Ayman Antoun, McGourlay’s mandate is to accelerate cloud migrations and secure long-term renewals across the enterprise.

His appointment follows a tenure as interim leader where he was credited with maintaining operational continuity and deep client engagement during a period of executive transition. Executive Chairman Tom Jenkins emphasized that McGourlay’s deep institutional knowledge is critical for positioning the firm as a trusted partner for large-scale digital transformations. 

Simultaneously, Paul Duggan stepped down from the Chief Customer Officer role to serve as Special Advisor until his departure in July 2026. This reorganization centralizes customer success under McGourlay to ensure a more cohesive bridge between the company’s legacy on-premise solutions and its expanding cloud-based AI offerings.
