OpenAI has announced the launch of Prism, a LaTeX-native platform that integrates GPT-5.2 to address inefficiencies in scientific writing and collaboration. The platform brings drafting, revision, citation management, equations, and collaboration into a single interface, eliminating the need to move between disconnected tools.

The announcement described Prism as “a free, AI-native workspace for scientists to write and collaborate on research,” framing it as an early step toward accelerating scientific productivity. Prism is available immediately to users with a ChatGPT personal account and will soon extend to Business, Enterprise, and Education plans.

Prism builds on Crixet, a cloud-based LaTeX platform acquired by OpenAI, and expands it with integrated AI reasoning and collaboration features. Researchers can explore ideas with GPT-5.2 in context, revise full manuscripts with equations and references intact, search and incorporate relevant literature, and convert handwritten equations or diagrams directly into LaTeX. The platform supports unlimited collaborators, enabling teams across institutions to work together in real time without local setup or seat limits. OpenAI noted that “Prism is our first step toward addressing this fragmentation,” adding that AI is expected to play a growing role in scientific discovery by reducing friction in everyday research tasks.
