OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Atlas, a new web browser with ChatGPT integrated directly into its core experience. Designed to merge browsing and AI interaction, Atlas allows users to search, analyze, and complete tasks without leaving the page. The browser draws on ChatGPT’s existing capabilities—search, memory, and agent mode—to create a more interactive, context-aware experience. Users can ask questions about the content they’re viewing, generate summaries, and automate tasks such as scheduling, research, or form completion. ChatGPT memory is built in, enabling Atlas to recall prior interactions and relevant details to assist users more efficiently across sites and sessions.
Atlas also introduces “browser memories,” which store contextual information from visited pages to make future interactions more personalized—though users retain full control to view, delete, or restrict access at any time. Agent mode, available in preview for Plus, Pro, and Business users, allows ChatGPT to perform tasks within the browser, such as compiling research or making online purchases, while adhering to safety limitations that prevent access to sensitive data. Currently launching for macOS, Atlas will expand to Windows, iOS, and Android in the coming months, marking a significant step toward more adaptive, AI-driven browsing experiences.
