OpenAI and NVIDIA have signed a letter of intent for a long-term strategic partnership to deploy at least 10 gigawatts of NVIDIA systems for OpenAI’s next-generation AI infrastructure. To support this large-scale rollout, NVIDIA plans to invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI as the systems are deployed, with the first phase expected to go live in the second half of 2026 on NVIDIA’s Vera Rubin platform. The partnership designates NVIDIA as OpenAI’s preferred compute and networking partner, with both companies working to align their hardware and software roadmaps for future model development and infrastructure growth.
Jensen Huang, Founder and CEO of NVIDIA, said, “This investment and infrastructure partnership mark the next leap forward—deploying 10 gigawatts to power the next era of intelligence.” OpenAI CEO Sam Altman added, “Compute infrastructure will be the basis for the economy of the future, and we will utilize what we’re building with NVIDIA to both create new AI breakthroughs and empower people and businesses with them at scale.”
President Greg Brockman emphasized the longstanding collaboration, noting OpenAI’s reliance on NVIDIA systems since its early days. With more than 700 million weekly active users, OpenAI expects this agreement to advance its mission of building artificial general intelligence for broad societal benefit while complementing ongoing work with Microsoft, Oracle, SoftBank, and Stargate partners.
